The 5 Essentials
A coffee
table is the centerpiece of any gathering space. It’s a piece that can make a
statement and has the power to pull a room together and complete its story. Before
you begin, set an intention for your coffee table; what will you be using it
for and how do you want it to function in your space? It is, simply put, the
heart of your living space.
Our decorator
is sharing her 5 tips and tricks for how to style a coffee table...
Here are the 5 essentials:
Add height- Whether it’s with a vase or a sculptural
object, varying height creates an interesting sightline. Stack your books and
use them as a pedestal. They can add height to an artifact or sculpture that
would otherwise appear small on their own.
Go green-
You don’t need to
break the bank on a fresh flower arrangement every week. Use clippings from
your garden or a single sprig of greenery to instantly soften your look. A new
favourite accent of ours is organic driftwood. It doesn’t always have to be green;
any living element will give you a soft, natural feel.
Strip your books-
Remove your book
covers. This is a simple trick that goes a long way in sophisticating your
look.
Experiment with shape
and colour- Our
go-to for adding shape and colour is with a bold serving tray or bowl. Whether
holding contents or standing alone, styling with functional decor makes it easy
to transition your space from an everyday hangout to hosting guests.
Layer textures-
Layer on top of your
book stack or tray with a decorative accent that offers a contrasting texture
or appeals to a sense. This can be a candle, a piece of coral or personal
treasure from your travels.
These 5
essentials are the perfect place to start. When in doubt, consider the
universal “rule of the three.” When creating your groupings, mix sets together
to create coordinated, but varied groupings.
Styling your
coffee table should be light and fun. It’s a space in your home that you can constantly
reinvent depending on the occasion, season or even mood! We hope you’ll
remember these 5 essentials and comment below with your own tips and tricks and
photos of your personal looks.
Until next time!
